Lakeway

This month, we’re spotlighting Lakeway, a suburb of Austin, Texas.  Lakeway is about twenty-four miles west of Downtown Austin, west of 620, north of highway 71, on the eastern shore of Lake Travis.  It’s popular with those looking to live in area that feels like the country, with access to boating, swimming, and other lake activities, while still being able to commute into the city.

Lakeway began life as a 2,700 acre ranch owned by an oilman and rancher from Houston named Jack Josey.  In the early 1960's, that land was purchased and the developers began the community with an inn, which opened in July of 1963 and was called the Lakeway Inn and Marina.  Residential homes began being sold on May 30, 1963 and in July 1974, when Lakeway was just 300 homes and 1,000 acres, the area was incorporated and the village of Lakeway was born.  As of the 2010 census, the population was just over 11,000.
